Panelists Dan Booth, Adrienne R. Fields, Kyle-Beth Hilfer, and Carol J. Steinberg will present on Copyright (Basics), Small Claims, and Dispute Resolution including a lively discussion about the tools that creators should consider to protect their works, enforce their rights, and effectively resolve disputes. The panel will provide practical tips for creators on how to protect their work and enforce their rights and discuss a variety of alternative dispute resolution options to avoid litigation in court. Such options include submitting cases to the recently formed Copyright Claims Board (CCB), effectively a Small Claims forum for copyright claims up to $30,000. The panel will discuss what types of claims may be submitted to the CCB and how this streamlined process works. There will be time for Q&A in the end.

About the Panelists
The Law Office of Adrienne R. Fields is a New York based provider of legal representation for art world participants and businesses in various creative industries. Adrienne was formerly the Director of Legal Affairs for Artists Rights Society (ARS). Her primary areas of practice include intellectual property law, commercial contracts, and alternative dispute resolution. Adrienne advises on collaborative projects in the arts, publishing, media, advertising, film and television industries. Adrienne has experience serving as a neutral and is a Higginbotham Fellow of the American Arbitration Association. She is the Publications Officer and Chair of the Content Advisory Board for the Intellectual Property Law Section of the ABA. Adrienne is a past Editor-in-Chief of Landslide® Magazine and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. She is a member of the Art Law Committee of the NYC Bar Association and an active member of the Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section of the NYSBA. Adrienne holds a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, an M.A. from Christie’s Education and a B.A. with highest honors from Brandeis University.
Kyle-Beth Hilfer of Hilfer Law brings over thirty years’ experience to serving as an arbitrator, mediator, and court neutral. Kyle-Beth’s skill in resolving commercial disputes is directly related to her transactional practice in advertising, marketing, intellectual property, and emerging marketplaces’ law. Kyle-Beth differentiates herself as an arbitrator with an active case management style. As a mediator, she deploys tools tactically, including active listening, questioning, and reality testing. She serves on panels with the AAA; WIPO; NYS 2d Dept, Appellate Division; NYS Part 146 Roster, and NYC OATH. Kyle-Beth holds a JD from Harvard Law School and a BA from Yale.
Carol J. Steinberg has practiced art, copyright, and entertainment law in New York City and on the East End of Long Island for over twenty years. She is a Member of the Faculty of the School of Visual Arts, where she teaches courses on artists' rights. Carol is a Co-chair of the Fine Arts Committee of the State Bar's Entertainment, Arts, and Sports Law Section and of its Pro Bono Steering Committee and a member of the City Bar's Art Law Committee, where she chaired the sub-committee on Artists' Rights. She often speaks to artists and creatives on Artists' Rights and has been a frequent lecturer for NYFA's professional development programs. She is also a member of the Copyright Society, East Hampton Arts Council, the Fine Arts Federation, ALAI (International artists' rights organization founded by Victor Hugo), and the Board of Directors of the Center for Art Law.
